Immigrant Visas

The consular section of the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest processes family-based and employment-based immigrant visas resulting from immigrant petitions filed by a U.S. citizen with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) in the United States. Approved petitions are forwarded to the National Visa Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The National Visa Center collects fees and documents and schedules the interview.

The consular section is open for immigrant visa interviews Monday – Thursday from 1:00 until 4:00. Diversity visa appointments are scheduled Monday – Thursday at 8:00. To schedule an appointment for an immigrant visa application, call 200-3300.

The consular section can accept immigrant petitions only from American citizens who have been resident in Romania for at least 6 months, U.S. service members serving overseas on orders, or in matters of life or death. All other petitions must be filed with USCIS in the U.S.
