Immigrant Visas
Employment-Based Visas
Every year the United States approves a certain number of employment-based immigrant petitions. In most cases, an American employer must submit a petition on behalf of the immigrant. In some cases, the immigrant may file a petition on his own behalf. For a detailed explanation of the various types of employment-based visas and information about filing a petition, visit the State Department’s Employment-Based Visas page.
Approved petitions are forwarded to the National Visa Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which collects the fees and documents and schedules the visa interview. The applicant will receive instructions in the mail describing what documents to bring to the interview.
