September 22, 2009
Today a delegation of eleven American businesses with expertise in the nuclear power industry visits the Nuclear Power Plant at Cernavoda. The delegation, organized and led by the Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy, is in Romania to introduce its capabilities to technical staff of Nuclearelectrica and Energonuclear.
The group is exploring opportunities to participate in the construction of Reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda, as well as future construction of a new nuclear power plant. The eleven companies represent a range of services and technologies such as design software, project management, analytical equipment, simulators, components, new nuclear technologies, and waste management.
“Nuclear power is attracting new interest as countries seek to increase the diversity of their energy supplies, improve energy security, and provide a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels. The United States has been a leader across all facets of this industry, from design to waste disposal,” said U.S. Ambassador Mark Gitenstein at a reception held Monday night to introduce the U.S. businesses to Romanian government and businesses.
“Westinghouse is persuaded that the Romanian nuclear industry offers considerable opportunities for companies such as ours," added Michael Pelle, General Manager WEC Europe.
The American companies participating in this program include: AMEC, Autodesk, Babcock and Wilcox, CH2M Hill, Froehling and Robertson, Hill International, Honeywell, Mathey Dearman, NuScale Power, Trax International, and Westinghouse.
