About sixty high school students from Romania and 10 of their teachers from 37 different cities attended a U.S. Peace Corps - organized journalism summer camp in Barlad, Vaslui, this week.
More than 200 students applied for the week-long Journalists of Tomorrow Summer Camp, which ended today, July 25. The U.S. Peace Corps partnered with Alexandru Ioan Cuza Industrial High School Group, the Vaslui inspectorate, the Cuza Association, and local media to put together the learning opportunity.
The students started the English-language camp on July 18 with a traditional dance and food night. The following day, they began their classes discussing topics like basic news writing and interviewing. For the rest of the week, the students had the chance to see Romanian and American journalists discussing other aspects of journalism, including feature writing and photo editing.
The week ended with an awards ceremony at Alexandru Ioan Cuza Industrial High School. On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, Julie Nickles, Information Officer, congratulated the high school students from throughout Romania who just completed the Peace Corps Summer Camp in Barlad.
