The English edition of the National Geographic Traveler Guide for Romania was officially launched today during a press conference followed by a reception hosted by the Ambassador of the United States of America, Mr. Nicholas F. Taubman, and Mrs. Eugenia Taubman.

The official launch was honored by the presence of officials of the Government of Romania, members of the U.S. Embassy, distinguished representatives of international organizations, the National Geographic Society and National Geographic Romania, and of the travel and tourism industry in Romania. Nicholas F. Taubman, the Ambassador of the United States of America, Declan Moore, Vice President National Geographic Society and Publisher of National Geographic Magazine, and Lucia Morariu, Secretary of State, Ministry of SMEs, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions presented remarks.

The National Geographic Traveler Guide for Romania offers a comprehensive portrait of Romania’s rich cultural heritage, long history and natural beauty and promotes the country as an attractive travel destination. The Traveler Guide for Romania joins the highly praised National Geographic Traveler Guide series and has 272 pages, over 160 photos, 20 maps, including walking and driving tours, and specially commissioned artwork.

"The National Geographic Traveler Guide for Romania is one of the achievements U.S. foreign assistance proudly leaves behind,” said Ambassador Taubman. “The Guide will help increase foreigners’ interest in Romania, and also Romanians’ interest to rediscover the treasures of their own country."

The National Geographic Society created the National Geographic Traveler Guide for Romania with funding from the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). USAID will distribute 1000 copies in English and 1000 copies in Romanian to school libraries, Romanian tourism offices abroad, and organizations supporting tourism.

The National Geographic Traveler Guide for Romania will be published in several languages. (Romanian, English, Dutch, French, Polish, and the list is still open).
