American Medical Mission Provides Free Care in Botosani
September 12, 2007
The U.S. Medical Missions Foundation (MMF), consisting of doctors, surgeons and nurses, arrived in Bucharest on September 8, 2007 and immediately traveled to Botosani, where it will provide a program of surgery and other medical care for needy residents of the area.
Since 1996, the MMF, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, has provided medical treatment for thousands of children and adults around the world. This will mark the group’s 7th trip to Romania. In previous visits they performed approximately 700 surgeries and provided medical care to over 4,500 Romanians free of charge. Last year alone, the group donated over 600,000 dollars in medicines, medical services and equipment.
This year’s group includes 75 participants, 50 from the Kansas City area. Stephene Moore, wife of Congressman Dennis Moore of Kansas, is one of the nurses and is making her fifth trip to Romania, while several members of the group are on their 7th mission. The group includes seven students (children of participants) who will do art projects with children waiting for medical exams or surgery. The group also includes a firefighter coming for the second time, who will be traveling to villages and schools with a Romanian firefighter to discuss burn prevention.
Following the final day of surgery on Friday, September 14, the group will return to Bucharest via overnight train arriving early on September 15.
Journalists wishing more information on MMF’s mission to Botosani are invited to contact the group’s American coordinator, Abigail Hayo, or its Romanian coordinator, Freddy Filip, at 0722 254 655 (Mr. Filip will answer).
