Ambassador Lagon engages audiovisual and print media in a talk about trafficking

Ambassador Mark Lagon, Senior Adviser to the Secretary of State on Human Trafficking, undertook a three-day visit to Romania to discuss Trafficking in Persons (TIP) with officials from the Government and NGOs. Ambassador Lagon was interviewed by the third largest national daily, Evenimentul Zilei (circulation over 56,000 in 2007). He warned that legalizing prostitution does harm by increasing the demand for human trafficking. Lagon also discussed the topic of legalizing prostitution in Romania and highlighted the cooperation in law enforcement between the two countries in a live interview on the evening newscast Ora de Stiri (News Hour) on TVR 2, the second public TV channel. During his visit, Lagon met with representatives of Romanian Orthodox Church and Patriarch Daniel. He thanked the Romanian Orthodox Church for being a powerful ally in the movement to end human trafficking and for opposing the idea of legalizing prostitution during an interview with Radio Trinitas and TV Trinitas.
