Deputy Director for International Assistance of the United States Office of Government Ethics (USOGE) Visits Romania

June 10, 2008

Jane Ley, Deputy Director for International Assistance and Governance Initiatives at the United States Office of Government Ethics (OGE), visited Bucharest June 9 -10 at the behest of the Romanian National Integrity Agency (ANI). In her current capacity, Ms. Ley has primary responsibility for providing technical assistance to foreign governments and entities in programs designed to address and prevent corruption.

During her visit, Ms. Ley met with ANI President Alexandru Macovei and participated in discussions on management issues confronting similar institutions. She also participated in a day-long workshop at ANI on June 10, providing training and exchanging information on data bases, investigative techniques, information sharing between government entities, and communications matters. She also participated in a roundtable discussion with counterparts from European embassies on rule-of-law and justice reform issues.

The visit underscored the U.S. government’s ongoing support for the government of Romania in the development of credible and efficient tools in the fight against corruption and of our support for the work of the National Integrity Agency.
