Among the tools available at INFORMATION USA are:

  • on-line electronic databases like Legi-Slate, Lexis-Nexis, PDQ and Stat-USA
  • CD-ROM databases like ProQuest General Periodicals Ondisc that includes indexes and abstracts for 1,000 periodicals, with over 300 periodicals full-text and full-image, and ProQuest Business Periodicals Ondisc, a database of over 1,000 business-related periodicals, 400 of them full-text and full-image, National Trade Databank, Books in Print with Book Reviews, Companies International and many other
  • journals
  • and an over 1,100-volume reference collection.

Online databases include the wealth of information available via the Internet (mainly World-Wide-Web), as well as commercial databases such as LegiSlate. The latter is an online service that covers Congress, U.S. legislation and articles from the Washington press. Recently a new valuable source was added, Lexis-Nexis, a very powerful database providing in one location a common search interface for full text news, legal, and business information from over 3,200 publications.

The INFORMATION USA reference book collection of over 1,100 volumes includes a collection of U.S. Government documents. The collection covers fields such as:

  • Government and Politics
  • Economics
  • Trade
  • Media
  • U.S. Relations with Central Europe
  • American studies

A Business Information Service, operated in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce, provides a wide range of material about doing business in the United States and about U.S. products and firms.

For broadcasters and cable operators, INFORMATION USA has a collection of video documentaries on American topics with re-broadcasting rights.

Reference specialists of INFORMATION USA are available to answer questions about the United States. For complex questions, they can compile bibliographies and detailed reports on desired topics. They target their services to a key audience of Romanians interested in policy-related or business information about the U.S. The colection reflects these priorities.


INFORMATION USA is opened every Tuesday and Thursday between 10:00-16:00, for walk-in consultations. High school and university students may also visit Wednesday from 10:00 to 16:00.
