American Corner Iasi celebrates Columbus Day

On October 8, 2007, American Corner Iasi celebrated Columbus Day. About 25 eleventh grade students from “G. Ibraileanu” High School, along with their English teacher and school librarian, and sixth grade students from “G. Bratianu” Secondary School together with their English teacher were present at the event.

The meeting was initiated by the older students who each prepared brief presentations about Christopher Columbus, his expedition and the meaning of this day. Then the younger students have enchanted the audience by interpreting a short play called "Christopher Columbus".

Also present at the meeting there were representatives of the OSIM Library in Bucharest, and the discussions have extended towards inventions and inventors, subject that proved to be exciting for the children.

At the end the students have been rewarded for their efforts with novels and stories books of American writers.

American Corner Iasi sarbatoreste Ziua lui Cristofor Columb

In ziua de 8 octombrie 2007, American Corner Iasi a sarbatorit Ziua lui Cristofor Columb. Cei 25 de participanti sunt elevi ai clasei a XI-a de la Liceul Teoretic “G. Ibraileanu” Iasi, insotiti de profesoara de engleza si de bibliotecara scolii, dar si elevi ai clasei a VI-a de la Scoala “G. Bratianu” impreuna cu profesoara de engleza.

Intalnirea a fost deschisa de catre cei mari care au pregatit fiecare cateva cuvinte despre Cristofor Columb, expeditia sa si semnificatia zilei sarbatorite. Apoi cei mici au delectat asistenta cu interpretarea unei piese de teatru intitulata "Cristofor Columb".

Prezenti la intalnire au fost si reprezentanti ai bibliotecii OSIM din Bucuresti, iar discutiile s-au extins spre final si catre inventii si inventatori, subiect care s-a dovedit pasionant pentru copii.

La finalul activitatii elevii au fost recompensati pentru efortul lor cu romane si carti de povesti ale unor scriitori americani.
