Global Warming

American Corner Iasi, in cooperation with the Adults Lending Books Section of “Gh. Asachi” County Library organized on February 22, 2007, the interactive meeting called “Global Warming – A phenomena that we only witness?”.

A report of the World Health Organization states that the changes produced by the people on the Earth climate have as result the annual death of over 150,000 people and the sickening of at least 5 millions.

The program that took place in the Art Galleries of “Gh. Asachi” County Library in Iasi, intended to raise awareness among youth the realities which we witness, but to which we wish to be more than witnesses.

Five Biology and Geography teachers and 15 of the over 70 students from the Administrative Economic High School Iasi and from the “Dimitrie Cantemir” High School Iasi have presented essays and projects on the theme mentioned above.

What was known about global warming is that it is slow process and the humanity has enough time to discover ingenious solutions to all the problems. The conclusion of this and the new evidence, extremely well documented, suggest that this scenario is totally wrong and, more likely we have to prepare ourselves for dramatic changes of the climate.

As a support for their future activities each of the students received either a “Biodiversity” publication or a “Map of USA”.

The event was covered by local media, the local TV stations Tele M and Radio Iasi and the regional daily newspaper “Evenimentul”.

Încalzirea Globala

American Corner Iasi în colaborare cu Sectia Împrumut Carte pentru Adulti din cadrul Bibliotecii Judetene “Gh. Asachi” Iasi a organizat în 22 februarie 2007, întâlnirea interactiva intitulata “Încalzirea Globala – Un fenomen la care ramânem doar martori?”.

Un raport al Organizatiei Mondiale a Sanatatii arata ca schimbarile produse de catre oameni asupra climei Pamântului au ca rezultat moartea anuala a peste 150 000 de persoane si îmbolnavirea a cel putin 5 milioane.

Manifestarea, care a avut loc în Galeriile de Arta ale Bibliotecii Judetene “Gh. Asachi” Iasi, si-a propus sa aduca în atentia tinerilor realitatile la care suntem martori dar la care ne dorim sa fim mult mai mult decât martori.

Cinci profesori de biologie si geografie si 15 din cei peste 70 de elevi de la Colegiul Economic Administrativ Iasi si de la Liceul “Dimitrie Cantemir” Iasi au prezentat eseuri si proiecte, pe tema mentionata.

Ce se stia despre încalzirea globala este ca aceasta e un proces lent si ca umanitatea are destul timp sa descopere solutii ingenioase la toate problemele. Concluzia acestei întâlnirii si noile dovezi extrem de bine documentate sugereaza ca acest scenariu este complet gresit si ca mai degraba trebuie sa ne pregatim pentru schimbari climatice deosebit de abrupte.
