Celebrating Martin Luther King

On January 15, 2007, American Corner Craiova celebrated Martin Luther King by organizing a screening of the documentary "Remember Martin Luther King" for 24 high school students from ‘Carol I’ High School, along with their English teacher Mr. Valentin Balutoiu.

The discussions that followed referred to racial discrimination, which still persisted in America in the 60s, even if this country had the most democratic constitution in the world. The discussion turned to Martin Luther King on how he fought against racism and for equal rights for all.

Some parts from the movie "Ray" were also shown to the students to illustrate that racism affected even talented and special people. The students also pointed out other personalities from areas like sports and singers that were affected by racism.

The youngsters learned new things and found out more about American Corner Craiova and the opportunities it provides. The students also received free copies of brochures like ‘Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights’, ‘What is Democracy’ and ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’.

A small exhibit of books and other documents that refer to Martin Luther King was also displayed in the American Corner.

Celebrare Martin Luther King

Toti participantii au primit reviste: ‘Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights’, ‘What is Democracy’ si ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’.
