The Hollywood Film Industry

On June 28, 2007, Mr. Andrew Reilly, Visiting Fulbright Lecturer, actor, director, writer and teacher of acting ended his cinematographic tour with American Corner Bucharest where he hosted a presentation on Hollywood Film Industry; How Hollywood Movies Get Made from Page to Screen to DVD; A perspective and an analysis of the Hollywood movie.

20 participants took part in the event, among them six mass-media representatives (daily “Cotidianul”, TVR Cultural, Radio Romania Actualitati) who expressed their wish to have an open dialogue with the guest-speaker on topics such as the American cinema compared to the European one, the difference between theatre and film, what makes a good actor and certain secrets of the American film making.

The screening of “Chinatown” directed by Roman Polanski included remarks by the speaker in connection with the movie (shooting, actors’ play, characters’ psychology, film symbolism, etc.).

Mr. Reilly donated to the American Corner Bucharest two signed copies of his book “An Actor’s Business”, a book about how the cinematographic industry works and how the money is made in the Film Fortress. In his opinion „school neither prepares you for the film industry nor teaches you what to do when you are on the street”. Mr. Andrew Reilly promised to come again to the American Corner Bucharest where he was warmly welcomed and with high interest.

Mass-media echoes:

Cotidianul – “Hollywoodul is as dangereous as McDonald’s” by Cosmin Popan and Andreea Lupu, July 2, 2007;

Industria Filmului Hollywoodian

O perspectiva si o analiza a filmului Hollywoodian”.
