Tolerance and Interculturalism

Tuesday, November 28, 2006, American Corner Bacau, in partnership with the Civic Education Center Bacau have organized the debate "Tolerance and Interculturalism". 25 high school students from "I. Ghica" Economic High School in Bacau, along with 16 teachers have attended the debate. The coordinators of this activity, prof. Geta Popovici and prof. Mihaela Ciuchi, have tried to accustom the participants to the problems of tolerance in a democratic society and to develop abilities of communication and interrelationship in the school and the society among the students present.

At the beginning of this activity, prof. Gabriel Stan, head-manager of Teacher-Training Centre Bacau, and Oana Jianu, AC coordinator, presented to the participants the services provided by American Corner Bacau.

The activity continued with a documentary screening inspired by "The Diary of Anne Frank". This film was the starting point of the debate on aspects regarding tolerance, discrimination, multiculturalism and values of a democratic society. As reference points, the public took some democratic societies, as the American civilization. The theme of this debate, as well as the interactive methods used by the two coordinators had aroused the interest of students and teachers participants in this event.

The participants concluded that a multicultural society not only respects the diversity, but keeps and synthesizes the values of all the groups which coexist in a certain space with its own identity.

In the end, the participants have received the book "Foundations of Democracy" from the Civic Education Center and some informative materials regarding the American democracy from the American Corner Bacau.

Toleranta si interculturalitate

Marti, 28 noiembrie, 2006, in cadrul American Corner Bacau, in colaborare cu Centrul de Educatie Civica Bacau a avut loc dezbaterea "Toleranta si interculturalitate". Au participat 25 de elevi ai Colegiului Economic "I. Ghica" Bacau si 16 cadre didactice. Coordonatorii, prof.
